Parenting Time Out

Parenting Time Out often referred to on our website as our version of the PTO, is dedicated to us said parents. Being a parent is a really tough job, it is often referred to as the most rewarding job and the most underpaid job –  and it is! We think its important for every parent to take some timeout for themselves; whether its a one-time night out here or there or its a reguarly scheduled timeslot you reserve for yourself. Taking a parental break is important because it allows you to detox from all of the parenting challenges, de-stress and be in the company of other adults. I cannot per say write a script but I highly recommend it – and I am sure you will agree. Below we have listed some ideas of places to go for a much deserved night out. Because when you do take the time, you are often wondering what do we do? Don’t have a sitter? Don’t worry, check out our recent article on what places offer a Kids Night In or think outside of the box and start a PTO cooperative with a neighbor, close friend or family members.

Want to see a show or a play? Check out Theaterworks, Hartford Stage or Playhouse on Park for some great, local productions. We typically get invited to Opening Night so ask us how it was!

Want to go out and boogie? You wouldn’t think you could boogie down at the Connecticut Science Center but this child’s science gem hosts an adult night out ever so often.

Want to laugh out loud? Funny Bone, See Tea Improve and the Brew Ha Ha are a couple of places worth checking out!

Want to visit a museum without the kids? New Britain Museum of American Art on the second Thursday of every month hosts an evening of art and conversation, on the first Friday of the month they also host a live Jazz night and once in a while they host a museum after dark event. The Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art stays open late the first Thursday of every month for extended exhibition hours, music, cocktails, food, art activities, a film and more.

Want to hear some tunes? Black-Eyed Sally’s offers a variety of live music performances, while the Hartford Jazz Orchestra performs at Arch Street Tavern on Monday nights.

Want to play a game? Arch Street Tavern offers up Trivia on Tuesday nights. The Wooden Tap also offers a trivia night Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at one of their local locations (nights vary per location) and Infinity Hall offers trivia on Wednesday nights.

Want to do something different? How does a graveyard shift ghost tour sound?
