1:30 – 3pm: Storytelling Across Traditions Join us for the November installation of our Homeschool class as we celebrate Native American History Month by learning about artistic traditions practiced by tribes represented in the Museum’s collection. We will visit our Hudson River School and Art of the American West galleries and discuss how different cultures create art that records history and tells stories. In the studio, we will create personal narratives borrowing from Plains American Indian traditions of record keeping. 6:45am: 12th Annual Malibu Fitness Thanksgiving 5K Malibu Fitness is happy to bring you the 12th annual Malibu Fitness Thanksgiving 5K to be held at Malibu Fitness in Farmington. We are proud to donate 100% of the proceeds to several charities including programs for injured veterans, Channel 3 Kids Camp, and various other local causes. 10 – 11:30am: In Junior Creator, kids participate in organized play activities designed to promote the development of creativity, social interaction, and expression. Kids utilize DUPLO bricks; engage in pretend situations; sing songs and nursery rhymes; learn letters, numbers, colors, and more. You’ll be amazed at the improvement you’ll see in your child’s fine motor skills after just a few visits to Snapology. Ages 3-6. $12 per child. Unitarian Universalist Church, West Hartford

11am – 1pm: Family Fun: Holiday Tamales In this special hands-on class, little chefs will work alongside their special adult to learn all about this fun tradition. Together, you’ll learn secrets for creating authentic tamales—from making fresh masa (dough) and classic fillings to creating a creamy pureed sauce. Plus, our instructor will walk you through the steps for wrapping tamales and steaming them to perfection. Make the holidays extra special by creating amazing tamales—and precious memories—with your little loved ones. The recipes in this class are simplified to fit the skills of young learners. The class is for children and their special adult to work as a team learning this fun, family tradition. Class price is per person, children must be accompanied by a paying adult. $49 per person. 11am – 3pm: Santa Claus Visit & Behind the Scenes Tours Santa Claus will meet with children in a helicopter. Photos are encouraged, and Santa will distribute a special gift to each child. Children and families will also have the opportunity to create holiday cards for members of the U.S. military. All cards will be distributed to active military servicemen and women stationed overseas during the holiday season. Additional family fun activities include hands-on Build & Fly Challenges, Aircraft Quest Scavenger Hunts, and computerized Flight Simulators. The museum will also offer special “Behind the Scenes” tours of the Restoration Facility that day, giving visitors the rare opportunity to take a close-up look at current aircraft restoration projects. The Douglas DC-3 passenger aircraft, the wide bodied Burnelli CBY-3 Loadmaster, and vintage aircraft engines will be among the restoration projects on display. 12 – 1:30pm: Snapology Engineers Build super-cool models like Race Cars, Catapults, and more that use gears, axles, and pulleys. Kids work in teams under guided instruction to build a different model using LEGO Technic bricks. This class is designed for children of all ages and building abilities to build together. Classes include free-building time to promote creativity. 1.5 hours. Ages 7-12. $20 per child. Unitarian Universalist Church, West Hartford

2 – 5pm: Star Wars Animation Studio Create amazing movies with stop motion animation using LEGO bricks in this special 3-hour Camp on Black Friday. Participants will have access to premium Star Wars LEGO sets including the Death Star, Millennium Falcon, and swarms of Stormtroopers. We also have all of the newest Star Wars Rogue One sets. Participants will work in teams to produce their very own movie complete with dialogue and sound effects. Parents are encouraged to sign-up with their Child to share in their Star Wars movie-creation experience! All movies are then uploaded to a secure site for family and friends to see how cool they are! Limited to 20-seats. Ages 7 and up. Unitarian Universalist Church, West Hartford

4 – 6pm: Tree Lighting featuring Santa Claus Santa Claus will make his first appearance of the season and will arrive at Stew’s on a truck from the Newington Fire Department, which will be decked out in holiday trim. Join the Newington High School choir along with Wow the Cow, Cynthia the Chick and Daphne the Duck while Santa and his helpers greet children and distribute candy canes to families. Children will also enjoy complimentary face painting, cookies, and hot cocoa. Event begins at 4pm and the tree will be lit at 5pm. No sign up necessary as this is a free event. Friday – Saturday from 10am – 4pm and Sunday from 1 – 4pm: Turkey Daze! How well do you really know Meleagris gallopavo, the wild turkey from which the domesticated version at your Thanksgiving dinner was derived? What is a turkey’s snood? What is a Jake? 5 – 9pm: Winterfest and the Tunnel of Lights Join hundreds of others and start a family tradition of coming for a trolley ride during the holiday season. Whether you ride a closed car or brave the cold to ride the open “electric sleigh,” we promise you a good time and one that you’ll remember for years. Join your motormen in singing traditional Christmas carols as the trolley makes its way through the “Tunnel of Lights”. When you return, head inside the Visitors Center which has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland complete with model trains, decorations galore and you can even buy a delicious cup of hot cocoa to sip as you enjoy the entertainment. Fridays 5 – 9pm, Saturdays & Sundays 4 – 9pm: It’s not The Holidays until you visit Holiday Lights! The park will be covered in lights, thousands of bulbs and spectacular light shows every half hour set to music. A selection of children’s and family rides will be open. Holiday Lights features a 100-foot-tall Christmas tree, the largest in Connecticut! And, there will be a nightly tree ceremony featuring special guests at opening each night. Lake Compounce, Bristol

The production runs November 25 to December 30. Weeknight and evening performances begin at 7:30pm Saturday, Sunday, and select weekday matinees begin at 2pm. Hartford Stage will host “Tiny Tim’s Holiday Food Drive” to benefit Hands on Hartford’s MANNA Community Pantry and Backpack Nutrition Program . Friday – Sunday at 10:30am and 3:30pm: Lars the Little Polar Bear is a story about a young polar bear who explores his arctic home, meeting friends along the way. Friday – Sunday at 1pm: The Sky Tonight Using the planetarium’s digital projection system, astronomy educators take visitors on a live tour of the current night sky. Saturday, November 26th:

9am – 12pm: Black Friday Picture Frame Ornament Take a shopping break and join our hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a keepsake for your holiday memories! You’ll work together to create a picture frame ornament, perfect for adding some personalized decoration to your Christmas tree. Once the ornament is built, your child can decorate it with paint & add their own photo of family fun. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a free certificate of achievement, a workshop apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last. Home Depot locations

10am – 4pm: Kids Carnival This one-of-a-kind day of fun for children will feature carousel rides, magic shows, face painting, arts and crafts, carnival games, prizes, balloon animals, representatives from other Bristol non-profit organizations, and much more. The colorful displays of the Museum, the festive rainbow of games, balloons, various carousel animals, circus memorabilia, and magic will enchant the child in your hearts! 1 – 2:45pm: CFPA Ramble: Highland Park History Hike Come learn about the history of the Highland Park area and the Case Brothers National Historic District while visiting properties protected by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust. We will visit the paper mill and mansion areas.Starting at the trailhead on Spring Street, we will plan to hike 1.5 miles. For participants who want a more strenuous event, we will make the bumpy and steep hike to the summit of Case Mountain; where, on a clear day, Heublein Tower is visible to the west.Be sure to bring water and wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots. The Holiday Shop will open Sunday, November 27, from 11am-4pm with special activities such as free gift wrapping, refreshments and tours of the festively-decorated historic house.
