Sunday – Thursday from 5-9pm and Friday-Saturday from 5-10pm: Holiday Light Fantasia is a much loved Greater Hartford tradition and this season’s destination. The 2-mile show transforms Goodwin Park into a drive-through wonderland of holiday spirit with a beautiful collection of over 1 million lights. Whimsical holiday scenes, familiar characters and local tributes shine bright in larger-than-life lighted scenes and 200 individual displays.  Lighted animations celebrate not only Christmas, but Hanukkah, New Years and Three Kings Day. 6:30 – 8pm: Domestic Violence 101 and its Impact on Young Children Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in an intimate relationship where one partner tries to control and dominate the other. The behavior may be verbally, psychologically, physically or sexually abusive. Assaulting, threatening or stalking an intimate partner is a crime in the state of Connecticut. This workshop will help childcare providers identify signs of domestic violence, abuse or unhealthy relationships in the child’s home, the impact and what they can do. It is also a way for parents/guardians, providers and community members to learn more about the issues around domestic violence/abuse situations and the resources available to help their friends, coworkers, family members or themselves. 7:30 – 8:45pm: Under the ‘Cold’ Moon Supermoon Family Night Hike Bundle up and join us for a guided woodland hike under the last ‘supermoon’ of 2016. The moon will be at its closest approach to the Earth and may look slightly larger and brighter than usual. This month’s moon is known by early Native American tribes as the Full Cold Moon because this is the time of year when the cold winter air settles in and the nights become long and dark. Founded in 1982 under the patronage of the Trinity College Chapel, CitySingers of Hartford was started by a few friends who enjoyed singing together. Since then, the ensemble has established a musical presence in Central Connecticut of inspiring programs that celebrate our common music heritage. These concerts often combine traditional and classical music for choral ensemble with other performing arts idioms. From the festive sounds of the holiday season to hauntingly beautiful Celtic melodies that touch the soul, to a celebration of the arts as a vehicle for world peace, this season’s programs will present a rare and varied musical experience. One of our continuing goals each season is to perform in different communities, on both sides of the Connecticut River, in order to visit a variety of performance spaces and audiences throughout the region. 4 – 6pm: Christmas Angelicus Salisbury Be it your first time or your 25th time, come witness the performance that makes the Christmas season magic. Traditional and contemporary arrangements of carols, hymns and seasonal songs with John McDonough’s specially chosen readings secular, sacred, comic and profound. This year we are honored to premiere a special carol written for us for the occasion of our 25th anniversary by the celebrated Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo! 10am: Sensory-friendly Performance of Pinkalicious the Musical This is the tale, based on the popular book by Victoria Kann and Elizabeth Kann, of Pinkalicious, who can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe – a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this pink predicament. Pinkalicious the Musical is about learning the power of self-control and the importance of moderation. Recommended for ages 3 and up. Friday and Saturday, 12/18-19 from 5 – 8pm and from 12/12-1/3 Saturdays from 10am – 4pm and Sundays, from 1 – 4pm: Three Centuries of Christmas The 2015 season kicks off with the lively Webb-Deane-Stevens Holiday Preview Party on Friday, December 11, from 5 to 8pm. Guests will delight in a candlelight preview of the dazzling holiday decorations throughout the museum, stroll from house to house enjoying delicious food, wine, ale, and live holiday music, and chat with Mr. and Mrs. Silas Deane, Mrs. Claus, and guides in period dress. Admission is $30 at the door. Evening-candlelight tours of the three elegantly appointed, historic houses—featuring guides in period dress sharing the fascinating history of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
