Welcome to the second week in May! We hope everyone enjoyed their Mother’s Day weekend! Our house was hit with the stomach bug and is the spirit to keep all things positive we are just very glad that it is over! We are super excited to celebrate my daughter’s 6th birthday party this weekend at Scene Art Bar of course it will be converted into a Kidz Art Scene for our daytime extravaganza. Stay tuned for our birthday guide next week which will share with you our experience. Below we have highlighted things to do for the next 7 days in Hartford County! Monday, May 11:

6:30 – 8:30pm: Paper Crafting 101 Create a paper pinwheel centerpiece that’s perfect for summer tablescapes. Meet us in the classroom, and our Associates will help you shop for supplies. Free with cost of supplies. Michaels.

Tuesday, May 12:

11am: Ballet Cat Storytime Join us for Storytime and activities featuring our Picture Book of the Month, Ballet Cat: The Totally Secret Secret. In this intriguing story, once Ballet Cat and Sparkles the Pony share their secrets, will their friendship end or be stronger than ever? Click here to learn more about this book. Free. 6:30 – 8:30pm: Free Intro Class: Jewelry 101 Make this multi-strand bracelet using ribbon, beads and a metal heart pendant. Meet us in the classroom, and our Associates will help you shop for supplies. Free with cost of supplies. Michaels.

Wednesday, May 13:

11am: Mail/Letters Storytime Join us for a fun-filled Storytime as we read some great picture books about the message of love and friendship. Wednesday, May 13 – Saturday, May 16:

6 – 11pm: 49th Annual Jamboree Fireworks Friday night, Parade on Saturday night, bracletes for every night for pay on price rides. Activities include face painting, a pitch and a dunk tank. Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department, Collinsville.

Thursday, May 14:

7pm: Celebrating Harper Lee at Barnes & Noble Customers are invited to discuss this award-winning, beloved novel. First-time readers, re-readers, families reading together and customers of all ages are invited to attend this dynamic book discussion about one of the most-read books in America. Barnes & Noble of Farmington, Glastonbury, Manchester and Canton.

6:30pm: Family Movie Night Face-painting, balloon animals and music. Shrek the Movie starts at 7:30pm on the big screen in the Field House! Tickets: free for children under three, $3 for youth ages 3-15 and $5 for adults. Boys and Grils Club, Bristol.

Friday, May 15 – Sunday, May 17:

New Britain Rock Cats vs. Portland Sea Dogs Promotions: Friday at 6:35pm: Come to the game dressed up as your favorite princess or pirate. Sunday at 1:35pm: Fans 12 and under are invited to run the bases like the pros after the game concludes.

Saturday May 16 – Sunday, May 17:

{Reoccurs} 1pm and 4pm. Freckleface Strawberry the Musical Based on the beloved New York Times best selling book by celebrated actress Julianne Moore, comes a brand new family musical.  You and your family can step inside the book’s pages with Freckleface and friends as they learn to love the skin they’re in. Saturday, May 16:

10am: Top Your Tacos: Kids Cooking Class Whether you prefer crunchy tacos or soft ones, the toppings are the best part. We’ll show you how to make fresh salsa, great guacamole and other fun toppings for a taco dinner. You’ll impress your family when you prepare these at home. Suitable for ages 9 –13. 10am – 4pm: Barnes Nature Center – Grand Reopening Help us celebrate the grand reopening of the Harry C. Barnes Memorial Nature Center. New exhibits, live animals, music, vendors, nature walks, nature store, art gallery. Free admission. Barnes Nature Center, Bristol.

11am – 12:30pm: Come celebrate National Strawberry Month as we prepare some recipes using the main ingredient of the day: fresh strawberries! Strawberry Salsa with cinnamon pita chips and strawberry cupcakes with berries in both the batter and the frosting! Some more berry surprises are in store. Ages 6-12. $25 per child. 11am – 3pm: Farm Day is Westmoor Park’s annual open house celebration of farms and farm culture.  Fun for the whole family. Click here for their flyer. Parking is limited, carpools are encouraged. Westmoor Park, West Hartford.

1 – 4pm: Make It with Michaels Maker Party Join us in the store for an afternoon of crafting! Our associates will help you choose from our Pinterest-inspired projects, shop for supplies and complete your craft in our classroom. Arrive early! The first 25 attendees will receive a special project instruction booklet. Michaels.

3 – 4pm: Muddy Kids are Healthy Kids There is so much going on beneath our feet in soil – it’s an intriguing ecosystem and it keeps our plants, and our children healthy! Join us as we get the dirt on soil and learn how playing in the mud actually benefits kids. $6. Preregistration requested. Roaring Brook Nature Center, Canton.

Sunday, May 17:

{Mommy Time Out} 11am: Southwestern Spice: Technique Class Fresh chiles and unique spices are the keys to creating a Mexican meal with a little Tex-Mex flair. From braised meat for tacos to fresh side dishes, you’ll learn how to whip up a Southwestern-inspired meal that’s packed with flavor—it’s perfect for parties, potlucks and even weeknight dinners. 1 – 4pm: Fresh from the Farm Tastings Sample our delicious products, enjoy live music, hayrides, wine tasting and locally roasted coffee! Killam & Bassette Farmstead, South Glastonbury.

2 – 4pm: Kids Painting – Fun and Playful Dolphin Make waves painting a fun and playful dolphin. Attain the skills you need paint your own personal works of art. Supplies not included. $15 per child. Ages 6 and up. Michael’s, New Britain.

2 – 4:30pm: Old Town Hall Museum Opening Day Come on opening day and you can enjoy free ice cream with sprinkles on our front porch, while supplies last! Free. Old Town Hall Museum, Enfield.
