Weekly Happenings: January 5 – January 11

Monday, January 5 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm | Hartford, CT | Learn to Solder at MakeHartford | Back by popular demand! Participants will learn to solder electronic components to a printed circuit board while assembling and testing a small electronic project kit. The finished project is useful for the further study of electronics and is the participant’s to keep. Instruction will include workbench safety. All tools and materials will be provided. Eye protection is required. Safety glasses are available for an additional $4. Ages: Teens/Adults. Cost: $35/class.

{PTO: Parent Time Out} Tuesday, January 6 – Tuesday, February 24 from 6:30pm – 8:00pm | Farmington, CT | Adult Drop-In Hockey | Why let the kids have all the fun? If you have played hockey before or have an interest in playing hockey, join us for this recreational pond hockey under the lights on Walton Pond. Interested participants are recommended to wear protective gear. Registration is required.

{PTO: Parent Time Out} Wednesday, January 7 from 6pm – 8pm | Farmington, CT | Cross Country Skiing for Adults | Novice to expert, young or old, all ski enthusiasts are encouraged to join us on Wednesday evenings, weather permitting, for an evening of skiing. You have the option of racing others, racing for personal time, or simply skiing for your own fitness. The ski center will be open for your convenience. Rentals will also be available for $10. Registration is required by noon on Tuesday.

Wednesday, January 7 from 6:30pm – 8pm | Farmington, CT | Hockey Clinic with the AHL – Hartford Wolfpack | He Shoots! He Scores! Learn some basics of hockey with professional players from our own Hartford Wolfpack. Everything from skating and shooting to passing and positioning will be touched upon. Players will be on hand to work with kids and sign autographs. Protective gear is recommended. Registration is required by 3 days prior. $5 per (non-member) family.

Friday, January 9 from 6pm – 10pm | Farmington, CT | Dinner and a Movie | Join us for this wintry mix on our summer movie series. Bring the whole family out for a great dinner served up in front of our big screen movie. A dinner of ziti with red sauce, meatballs, cheesy garlic bread, and salad will be served up family style. Dessert and beverages are also included. Reserve your seats today as seating is limited to only 80 persons. Tables of six will be filled from front to rear of theatre in order of registration. Friday, January 9 from 6:30pm – 8pm | West Hartford, CT | Sweaty Girls Night Out | Get dressed for a night out. Move, laugh and sweat the night away as we take you through a variety of group exercise classes. Lite refreshments served. $15 non-member.

Saturday, January 10 from 10am – 12pm | Winsdor, CT | Open House | Please join us to learn more about an education at Trinity Christian School. No registration necessary, walk-ins welcome!

Saturday, January 10 from 10am – 1pm | Hartford, CT | Second Saturdays for Families | Explore art with your family, encourage creativity, and expand your imagination through conversation and discovery. Each program is free and includes hands-on art projects, tours for families, live music, and engaging fun through film, theater and dance.

Saturday, January 10 – Sunday, January 11 from 1:30pm – 3:30pm | Farmington, CT | Saturday Family Walks – Nature’s Secrets | This winter join Miss Judy for a fun weekend afternoon of learning something new about the great outdoors. The program format is an indoor introduction about the days topic followed by a hands-on outdoor activity to try out what you learned. Dress in layers so you can be comfortable for the indoor introduction and to be warm enough for the outdoor activity. Saturday programs include an Introduction to Ice Fishing in January for those that are curious about the sport.

Saturday, January 10 | West Hartford, CT | PJ Library Chill Out | Let’s celebrate 2015! The night will begin with a short Havdalah service followed by fun in the gym with Coach Thai, Kidding Around Yoga, PJ Library stories and make your own snack. Free and open to the community. RSVP preferred.

Saturday, January 10 from 6-9pm | Farmington, CT | Explore the Night Walks | Miss Judy invites you to bring your friends and family for a fun night of learning about the great outdoors. The general format includes an inside introduction to the evening program, an outside walk, a warm fire with smores or something baked in the fire, a short walk outside to check the night sky, and of course family socializing with other night explorers. Dress in layers for the weather conditions that da it can get very cold on these winter nights. Because of unknown winter conditions, the Winter Exploration outside walk format will vary based on snow conditions during January and February. Hopefully this winter will be cold with snow so we can include some snowshoeing and ice skating each evening. The Hoping for Spring program in March will have us exploring the wetlands and forest for the sounds of spring peepers and wood frogs along with glimpses of early spring plants. Registration is required 3 days before the date of the event. $25 per (non-member) family.

Sunday, January 11 from 10-11am | Bristol, CT | Sensory Sunday | The Imagine Nation Museum is open only to children with special needs and their families. In addition to our multisensory interactive exhibits, which invite children to touch, discover and create, the museum is modified into a sensory friendly environment with lowered lighting and sound. At 11am the museum opens to the general public.Reduced admission is $3.50 per person.
